The Kingdom of Chalameria as it is currently known has a history spanning back 400 years. Comprised of four Baronies and ruled over by the Concord, a council of Great Orders, the land has recently been beset upon by a powerful force from within.

The Capital, Maram
While steeped in a tradition of law, the city cares little for matters of Order, affiliation, or cultural background. There are plenty of rules but most of them focus solely on the highly bureaucratic nature of city-life – building codes and tax rules, documentation and so forth – as opposed to highly ethical or moral laws that would restrict people’s beliefs. As such, Maram is highly multi-cultural and egalitarian, despite its many laws. This city’s culture is defined by the timeless push-pull between its highly codified rules and its constant influx of new ideas from around the realm. The Voskis hold the most sway in the city, but all cultures and people’s are welcome within the walls...

Laurentium
The people of Laurentium are known for their oddities, love of experimentation, and spiral architecture. As the initial birthplace of the Order of Averin, strong opinions on which of the four elements is the strongest are rampant throughout the barony, and friendly arguments are a common dinnertime topic. Centuries of these conversations have yielded a strange effect on architecture, with those who prefer stone focusing on building long, one-story buildings, those who prefer ice building in complex fractals, those partial to fire refusing to build anywhere but downwind, and those partial to lightning building tall, narrow complexes that often try to outdo one another as the closest to the sky. Over time and as the Order coalesced, these beliefs have slowly compromised into a predilection toward spirals, though there are some who still stick to the old way of thinking, and such preferences have begun to instead appear on clothes…

Wincor
The Southern Barnoy is known affectionately by its residents as “The Oasis”. It may seem contradictory to call such an inhospitable place an Oasis but the inhabitants have a long and complicated history with the land. During the Wandering Age outsiders looked at the Southern Barony as a vast inhospitable wasteland and a diseased ridden bog. No one wanted to live in such a challenging environment, as such the land became overlooked and forgotten. This in turn became a haven for desperate people. People who had been exiled from the other lands, people who had escaped persecution, the undesirables, and even people who were criminals all came here seeking solace. Because each and every one of these people had suffered hardship they bonded and were able to put aside their differences and became one people…

Elion
Elion is known first and foremost for its peace. From its relaxing brooks to its rolling green mountain ranges, everything about the land exudes tranquility. Two of the major landmarks of Chalameria call Elion home: The Universities at Insignia and the home of the Earth Guild at Irenhome. These two truly tell the tale of what the land aspires to be – serious, contemplative, and kind. Insignia attracts aspirants from all over Chalameria as well as Fortannis as the schools there are among the best in the known world when it comes to producing nobles of strong virtue and character. The healing waters of Irenhome, on the other hand, attract those who wish to pursue a life of service as a healer, as well as those who wish to be healed. Many of the surrounding villages work on producing paper, oils, tinctures, and ink…
NPC-ONLY AREAS OF CHALAMERIA:
We would also like to note the following locations as being offlimits for PC characters origins/backstories at this time -
The Dreamwood - This is the forest in the center of the map, and the area of primary antagonism currently within the game world. As such it is off-limits for PC backgrounds (though characters may still conjecture, lie, or make believe as much as they like about it within the world).
The Oubliette - This is the tower at the base of Wincor, and a location primarily known as a prison for the Kingdom’s criminals. As it is not a free to come and go area without special considerations which are not available at character creation, we are currently restricting character backgrounds from including it.
The Watchtower - This is the Tower furthest north on the map. The Watchtower is not Chalamerian, and little info is known about it as those who have left to investigate it are often taken elsewhere by the mists before reaching it. Perhaps a new band of adventurers will be able to ascertain its origins.
The Paradox Gates - This is the active volcanic activity in Laurentium. While the scholars of Laurentium do study this space and there is NPC activity nearby, it is not a habitable space and as such at this time we ask that no PCs incorporate it into their backstories as place of origin. That does not mean that your character can’t have encountered some of the elementals that sometimes prowl nearby.
The Islands to the East - This is a strange and wonderous land where our cousins from the East hail from. Although emissaries are often sent from the Eastern Isles to the Greater World of Chalameria, as of this date, no one has been permitted entry onto the Islands.
