Gale in History
It is said the Gale once moved from place to place in great caravans, selling their wares. They used a barter system to trade the various goods they collected from the other peoples, banded around a simple idea – that all made goods were art, and art was meant to be shared and spread…for a price. Due to their nomadic lifestyle, Gale lacked properly equipped artisans with workshops and constant supplies themselves, and instead relied on the wares of the other peoples for survival. Their specialty quickly became trade and appraisal. As civilization coalesced into great cities, Gale became the traders, bankers, and financiers of most of the other Orders. Fairness and a respect for trader’s code of honor were at their core, and they ensured all had access to and could benefit from the wealth they created.
Gale Today
Due to their expert management, and settling within the steppes of Wincor, Gale has attracted many famous artisans of their own, ranging from master blacksmiths to expert brewers. They are still known for being exceptional merchants throughout the lands, and often are called upon to set up local merchant guilds and markets within towns and villages to help maintain fair and adequate pricing. Members of Gale believe the value of coin has one truth, and aim to ensure and maintain a golden standard across Chalameria. While newer members are sometimes unsure of specific valuations and are often seen referring to charts and ledgers, you can spot the confidence in an astute Gale a mile away.
The Dragon: Keeper of Truth and Fraud
The Dragon stands as the arbiter of the delicate dance between truth and lies, embodying the duality of honesty and deception. Within the mist sphere of Chalameria, the Dragon guides those who traverse the realms of commerce, power, and influence, urging them to wield their cunning with both precision and integrity. A deal is sacred, and a contract is binding; yet, while silence and omission can be artful tools, outright fraud and exploitation are frowned upon, even by the Dragon's ambiguous standards.
The Dragon is the patron of the wealthy, powerful, and well-connected, particularly those from the Merchant class and Nobility. It is through the Dragon’s favor that prosperity is achieved, though its methods are often enigmatic and shrouded in subtlety. Whether one acquires their fortune through shrewd deals or advantageous connections, the Dragon’s support manifests in ways that ensure success—provided one respects its ethos.
Navigating the Dragon’s Principles
The Dragon's favor relies on navigating the complexities of economics and political machinations with skill and long-term vision:
Truth as a Virtue: Honesty, when strategically employed, shines brighter than wealth, building trust and enduring partnerships.
Fraud as a Vice: Betrayal of oaths, exploitation, and dishonesty erode credibility, relegating the offender to the status of a charlatan or an opportunist doomed to failure.
The Dragon demands a careful balance, favoring those who play the long game, valuing patience and consistency over short-sighted gains.
The Dragon’s Hoard: A Den of Deceit
The game has changed. Honesty is no longer a virtue—it is a liability. In Chalameria, those who play fair find themselves outpaced, outmaneuvered, and left in the dust by those who understand the truth: deception is the fastest path to fortune. The Dragon’s principles have been twisted, its ideals of patience and strategy discarded in favor of quick, ruthless exploitation.
Oaths are nothing more than words, spoken only to be broken when the moment is right. Promises are currency, spent and discarded when a better opportunity presents itself. The boldest no longer seek stable deals or lasting partnerships; they pivot, manipulate, and defraud, climbing over the wreckage of failed alliances with smiles on their faces. The market is not a place of negotiation—it is a battlefield, and only the most cunning emerge with their purses full.
The Dragon no longer watches with approval. Its favor is a dwindling ember, smothered by the sheer weight of greed and duplicity. Trust is a relic, integrity a fool’s game. Those who still cling to such outdated notions are easy prey for those who know the truth: in Chalameria, fortune does not favor the patient—it favors the ruthless.
The Decline of the Dragon's Boon
Recent trends among the people of Chalameria have shifted toward fraud and dishonesty, tarnishing the Dragon’s favor:
Breaking oaths and abandoning promises for fleeting gains.
Pivoting deals at whim, disregarding broader consequences.
Defrauding others, even at the expense of lives and well-being.
This imbalance has caused the Dragon’s boon to weaken, reflecting the erosion of trust and integrity in society.
